Building a Safer Future: Our Approach to Rail Education

Understanding the railway environment can save lives. ORE’s learning resources are designed to help children, families, drivers and communities better understand how trains, tracks and crossings work — and why safe decisions matter.

Rail safety is about more than just stopping, looking and listening. It is about understanding the size, speed and stopping distance of trains, recognising different types of crossings, identifying hazards, and knowing how to respond safely in everyday situations.

At ORE, we are reimagining rail safety education in Australia by making it more practical, engaging and accessible for everyday communities. Through books, educational content and community-focused resources, we aim to move beyond awareness alone and build real understanding that helps people make safer decisions.

Topics we focus on include:

  • Railway crossing safety

  • Understanding trains and stopping distances

  • Hazards around tracks and rail corridors

  • Safe decision-making for drivers and pedestrians

  • Rail safety for children, families and communities

At ORE, we believe that an educated community is a safer community.
