Why Partner with ORE

A freight train travelling at 100km/h can take up to 2,000 metres to stop.

When road users do not understand stopping distances and important rail information, the consequences can be devastating.

Rail safety education in Australia needs a new approach - moving beyond awareness and into practical understanding. ORE delivers this through school programs, community events, traveller education, heavy vehicle engagement, social media learning and a community-driven Australian children’s rail safety book.

ORE is not a traditional corporate safety campaign. It is a driver-led initiative created by someone who has first-hand experience and allows safety messages to be delivered by someone who has practical understanding and public trust.

Your organisation will:

  • Align with a credible safety message delivered by a working locomotive driver with lived rail experience

  • Reach high-value audience: families, travellers, truck drivers, and communities in Australia

  • Demonstrate a visible commitment to safety culture beyond the workplace

  • Support a community-driven, uniquely Australian children’s rail safety book

  • Help build a growing movement changing how Australian’s think about trains

Your partnership positions your organisation as an active safety leader - supporting practical education and measurable public engagement at a time when rail and road safety remains a national priority.

Key Partner Outcomes

Education Outcomes

A crucial piece is missing from rail safety campaigns in Australia - practical education. ORE teaches the “why” behind safe behaviour around railway tracks.

Through school presentations, community sessions, book distribution, traveller education and direct conversations with road users, ORE helps key audiences make safer, more informed decisions around trains and the railway environment.

Community Outcomes

Your partnership helps deliver rail and road safety education directly to high-value community audiences.

By supporting ORE, your organisation contributes to rail safety conversations in homes, schools, cars, trucks, caravan parks, workplaces and all communities. This creates long-term meaningful community impact and value that extends beyond a single event, campaign or social media post.

Brand Outcomes

Partnering with ORE positions your organisation as a visible safety leader with a practical commitment to public education, harm prevention and community wellbeing.

Your brand aligns with a credible, driver-led initiative that is practical, community-focused and built on real railway experience. This gives your organisation a clear way to demonstrate safety leadership beyond internal operation and into the communities it serves.

Content Outcomes

ORE creates educational content that gives partners positive, shareable safety lessons for social media, internal communications, stakeholder engagement and public relations. Where appropriate co-branding educational content can be developed featuring relevant products, services, vehicles, sites or safety messages in an agreed and responsible way.

Reporting Outcomes

ORE is committed to providing evidence to partners on the reach and impact of their support. Partners receive updates on books distributed, presentations delivered, communities reached, event attendance, social media reach, audience engagement and community feedback. This can be used for internal reporting, stakeholder updates, community investment reporting and safety communications.

Deliverables

Over the next six months, ORE will deliver a South Australian proof-of-concept across Port Augusta, Spencer Gulf and the Flinders Ranges region. This local delivery phase will test, refine and measure ORE’s programs before national expansion.

ORE is preparing for future national expansion, with the aim of taking these programs to key community groups across Australia.

Children’s Book Series

The Travellers Crew Series

Set in the Australian outback and written in rhyme, The Adventures of the Travellers Crew: The Safest Way to Cross the Tracks helps children aged from three to eight and their families learn that every journey deserves care - on the road, on the tracks, and everywhere.

ORE aims to distribute its debut children’s book, to families, schools, libraries, community groups and corporate-supported safety initiatives.

ORE’s long term goal is to build a trusted children’s rail and road safety series.

School Presentations

ORE delivers age-appropriate rail and road safety presentations tailored to the audience, location and railway environment.

Early childhood & Primary School

ORE delivers rail and road safety presentations for children aged three to eight across early childhood centres, playgroups, libraries and primary schools.

Sessions are based on ORE’s children’s book and supported by simple, engaging activities such as colouring sheets, visual resources and take-home safety conversations.

High School

ORE delivers practical rail and road safety sessions for Year 10, 11 and 12 students who are preparing to drive or are new road users.

These sessions focus on train hazards, railway crossings and decision-making, using a format that connects with learner driver education and real-world road use.

Community Sessions & Events

ORE delivers community-based rail and road safety education in the places where people already gather, travel and make critical rail and road safety decisions everyday. Each session is tailored to the audience, location and type of railway environment they are likely to encounter.

Coffee with a Truckie

Heavy vehicle drivers are a high-priority audience, but shift work and long-haul operations make them difficult to reach through traditional campaigns.

ORE meets this audience where they already are - at truck stops, roadhouses and regional service centres.

Through Coffee with a Truckie, ORE provides practical safety brochures and face-to-face conversations that recognise the real conditions heavy vehicle drivers experience on the road.

This approach creates genuine engagement with drivers who interact with regional railway crossings every day.

Community Events

ORE attends community events to engage directly with priority audiences in high-traffic environments, including:

  • Car shows

  • Truck shows

  • Caravan and camping expos

  • Music festivals

  • Town fairs and regional shows

ORE attends in an official capacity to deliver short presentations, distribute educational resources, support book engagement and hold practical rail safety conversations with attendees.

Each activation is tailored to the event, audience and local rail safety risks.

Tracks and Travellers

Caravan parks provide a valuable opportunity to reach road users who may be unfamiliar with regional railway crossings.

ORE will attend caravan park events to deliver short presentations, informal safety conversations, traveller brochures and family-friendly rail safety resources.

These sessions help travellers better understand train speed, stopping distance, regional crossings and the extra risks that can come with towing caravans or driving heavier vehicles.

Media

ORE uses digital media as an education tool - not just a broadcast channel. Content is tailored to each platform, audience and learning objective to improve reach, engagement and understanding.

Social Media

ORE’s content model follows a simple learning cycle: test, teach, then reinforce.

This approach allows audiences to first consider what they know, learn the correct safety information, and then revisit the message through quizzes, recaps and follow-up content.

Performance data is reviewed regularly to refine content, improve audience understanding and identify which safety messages need further explanation.

As ORE expands, digital content may include approved depot tours, train and vehicle education, driver interviews, on-rail/road footage and community stories from across Australia.

This content will support an ongoing public education series that can be shared by ORE, partners and community stakeholders.

Children’s Channel YouTube

ORE is developing a dedicated children’s education channel using The Travellers Crew characters and Telly the Train Driver (Chantelle) to deliver age-appropriate rail and road safety messages.

The channel will feature short, child-friendly videos that explain key safety messages through storytelling, animation, visual examples and real-world learning experiences.

This gives families, schools and community partners another way to reinforce rail safety education beyond a single presentation, event or book reading.

Audience

ORE’s programs are designed for four priority audiences, each with real exposure to rail and road safety risk. ORE’s approach is built on two education needs: teaching and re-education. Children need to be taught about train hazards from the beginning. Adults need practical re-educated - not told to follow rules, but educated to understand why.

Every ORE program answers the “Why?”

Why do we need to stand so far back?

Why should I take my time at a railway crossing?

Why do I need to take extra care when it is foggy?

Answering the why helps people understand risk, remember safety messages and make more informed decisions. That is what makes ORE different.

Families & School Communities

For: Children, parents, carers, teachers & school communities

Why:

  • Introduce rail & road safety messaging from a young age

  • Simple, memorable resources that are easy to understand and remember

  • Uses vehicles and Australian landscapes that children recognise and relate to

  • Engages children through storytelling, activities and guided rail & road safety conversations

  • Builds positive habits and safe behaviours around trains from an early age

Learner Drivers & Young Adults

For: Learner drivers, young adults & new road users

Why:

  • Train hazards are not covered during the learner driver license process - ORE fills that gap

  • Equips young drivers with knowledge of train hazards before they go out on the road independently

  • Delivers lifesaving information they will use immediately

  • Leaves them with a conversation from a train driver in their head and a brochure in their car

Truck Drivers

For: Truck drivers, heavy vehicle operators & long-haul road users

Why:

  • Long vehicles face unique hazards at regional railway crossings that most drivers are never formally taught about

  • This audience is hard to reach through traditional safety campaigns - ORE meets them where they are

  • The “Coffee with a Truckie” approach delivers practical, face-to-face safety conversations at roadhouses, truck stops, and regional depots

  • Equips them with the knowledge to make better decisions at crossings

  • Leaves them with a brochure in their cab and a conversation from a train driver in their head

Travellers

For: Domestic travellers & international visitors

Why:

  • Travellers navigating unfamiliar regional crossings are one of the most overlooked groups in rail safety education

  • Those towing caravans or driving heavier vehicles face added risks they are often unaware of - ORE reaches them at caravan parks and community events - in the moments that matter most

  • Equips them with the knowledge to make an informed, safe decision at every crossing they encounter

  • Leaves them with a brochure in their glove box and the confidence to cross safely
